Edwardian Period (1890 - 1920)

As with other style changes there seemed to be an aversion to the monumental heavy, dark style of the Victorian period, the reaction produced some beautiful pieces of Sheraton Revival satinwood furniture. Compared to the 18th century pieces, this new style added excessive marquetry inlay and painted decoration to any surface that was practical. The heavy Victorian credenzas were transformed into a lighter feel by adding gilt mounts and even Sevres porcelain plaques.
